This is a really weak effort by Getty. Among the shortcomings: * No search * No full-screen * images saved to favorites can’t be viewed at full size. This really seems more like a prototype than a finished app.

Like others I cannot see the point of this app at all! I’m totally mystified. Can’t save images locally and if you want them have to pay mega bucks! is there a NO star ratin? Editors Choice? Nice earner there boys with the kickback! Installed and now to prompltly delete!
The app doesn’t let you choose screen resolution, the wallpapers it provided are of lower resolution than a Macbook Pro (non-retina model) screen.
The watermarks are a huge distraction and there is no search.
Very Nice. “Search" doesn’t ‘work’ yet, though, does it? Would very much like to search by title, caption content or photographer.
It’s one of the best-curated apps of this type. I DO wish there were options to fit the Wallpaper to different screen-sizes, not a stretch-feature but a zoom & placement would be awesome. That seriously downgrades an otherwise charming app. The watermark could be placed better in rare cases, but hey, it’s FREE!
This is a bait app to get companies to licence and use the Getty not-so-up-to-date stock images. Most images in the Getty Library that are any good are historial old ones. You are better off using the Google Image Library for finding your needed image and than contacting the owner to pay them for usage. Going this route will save hundreds or even thousands on stock image costs, and it will give money to the owner/photographer and cut the greedy middleman out of the picture!
There are a number of reviews that provide rather positive ratings, but in reading them… I see that these people are being overly optimistic. The truth is that a junior cocoa develooper could have hammered out this app casually over the course of an afternoon. This app truly lacks any noteworthy functionality… and to be released without search… are you serious? Truth being said, this application is very lackluster, especially coming from Getty images. Shame on Getty management for dragging your production team’s pride through the gutter. But lets hope that version 2.x is around the corner… because its going to take rather large changes to make this app something worthwhile to have on your computer.
I like the ease with which I can select a new wallpaper. My chief complaint is the lack of high resolution support. That watermark is very grainy on a retina display.
The best images in the Getty library are historical public domain photos available on the web. This app not only watermarks the images, but lacks even such basic options as a search feature. Its a sales pitch for suckers.
GettyImages app without search tool? Seriously? And what’s the point then?
This is a disappointing app with little functionality, a poor interface, and a confusing selection of images. You’re better off with Flickr or Google Images to find interesting images or photos — both are light years ahead of this app. Confusing why a world-renowned brand like Getty would release such a basic and primitive app or why Apple would put it on the Editor’s Choice list, but corporate partnerships are not as clearly marked as the watermark on the files in this app. Not worthy downloading or keeping on your computer.
There are some fantastic pictures to find here, espcially in the “Classic Photos” category. However, without a search funcition it is useless.
I don’t have all day to scroll through your beautiful pics. How in the world can you feel good about realeasing this product without search?! Totally and completely outrageous.
The app needs an in-window slideshow feature, in addition to the current fullscreen slideshow. #twodisplays
I write few reviews but was so insulted by this app I felt compelled to punish it. The interface feels primitive and slapped together, like the days when some apps were basically links to websites, and while the idea of having beautiful images available for your wallpaper in a click is appealling — who are they kidding? The images don’t scale and the watermark is a constant advertisement in your face. This has to be the product of complete arrogance and total contempt for users. I know it’s free, but that doesn’t make it worthwhile.
After installing the application, no image streams appear. The application is not functioning and when I access “Getty Images Stream Support,” it takes me to a page to download the Getty Images App for work and the Getty Images Stream for play for the iPhone, not a support page for the Getty Images Application for OSX10.10. Disappointed with Getty.
I should preface this by sayiing I have an IQ that is somewhat low, around a 70. With that said, I love the product. For my level of intelect it needed to be simple and easy to use. And it is. There was almost no thought put into this app, which is great for someone who can’t think clearly anways. Pros: It lacks creativity The photographs are pretty It’s simple due to the lack innovation Cons: It lacks creativity The photographs are pretty It’s simple due to the lack of innovation
GettyImages is big on distributing their content as much as possible while scouring the web for image use and collecting historic google/web snapshots whenever use is detected for any of their non-royalty free content. You will receive a call from their lawyers as some point asking you to pay artist royalties and damages. It’s not a question of if, it is when. Be forewarned. If you find any images on external sites including google images, be sure you get permission from the owner before you use it. The bottom line is stay clear unless you have money to burn.
If all the grumblers had taken the time to read the description of this app, maybe their comments would have been different. Since the vast majority of the public doesn’t read descriptions like this—or directions in general—it’s no wonder that they make comments that are really off-base!!!! The app is FREE!! The description says that the pictures are yours to use and distribute. Sure, they have watermarks, but I don’t even know if the photographers get paid for Getty to use the photos on the stream, but as I know a coupkle of photographers whose images are handled by Getty, I will find out. The stream is intended for use by the general public, and definitely not by art directors or professionals. As for the software they have used for the gallery, if anyone were to take the time to look at the acknowledgements for the gallery, they would find out that the software is an open source program which can be downloaded by the public!!! I hope people don’t think I’m being too harsh criticizing their comments, but this is Velveeta® not aged cheddar!!!!
